When TechNorth was first established, I requested the CEO to share the data they collect. When the CEO changed, I made the same request again. The value of data can only be fully realised, when shared.

I’m glad to see that they have started to share data in an interesting and meaningful way. Today, TechNorth launched the beta of mapping out northern tech companies.

The list includes following companies:

  • Northern Stars entrants
  • Upskill participants
  • Companies featured on the Tech North blog
  • Northern Tech 100 companies
  • Northern Tech Award winners
  • Established incubators, accelerators and co-working spaces

Tech Britain

Prior to Tech North’s effort, there was an effort by Doug Ward and Shaun Gibson at Tech Britain. As they have moved on to building Telcom and other ventures, Tech Britain has unfortunately become a ghost town.

GP Bullhound Tech Map

Few years back, GP Bullhound started to visualise tech company landscape through a map. Sources for most of the companies are those who applied for Northern Tech Awards (I founded it) and those who are in their deal flow pipeline.

Techcelerate Tech Startup List

In our previous life (from 2006 to 2013), we never got round to mapping the startups among our 2,300 strong tech community. However, the original list is still live today. Some have withered and died, some had exits and some continue to thrive.
