Your customer-facing team hears more about the product than anyone. Capture feedback in one place, tie it to revenue, share it monthly and tell customers what changed.
Support tickets, onboarding calls, renewal reviews and cancellation surveys are full of evidence about what customers need. In most tech startups that evidence stays in inboxes and memories. A feedback loop turns it into structured input for the product team and closes the loop by telling customers what happened.
Keep surveys short and tied to a moment. A satisfaction question after each support ticket tells you about support quality. A single “how likely are you to recommend us” question each quarter, followed by “what is the main reason for your score”, gives you comments to analyse. The comment is more useful than the number. The product–market fit score tool is another way to check whether a segment would be very disappointed to lose you.
Mossgate, a fictional Cardiff tech startup, sells maintenance software to housing associations. Its product team built whatever the loudest customer asked for. Customer success started logging every request with the account’s revenue and health attached.
After two months, the top theme by revenue was not the most requested feature. It was a reporting gap mentioned by only five customers, but those five made up a large share of recurring revenue, and two were amber on health. Product built the report first. Both amber accounts renewed, and Mossgate emailed every customer who had raised it to show them how to use it.
Volunteer customer insights analysts can log and tag feedback, synthesise monthly themes with revenue attached and help close the loop with customers.
