The emerging thinking of Techcelerate

What does it take to build a successful tech startup? This is the question I always try to find an answer to.

First, you need an abundance of drive coupled around a vision. You might not have the experience to be good at execution. But if you have the drive, then the execution can be learned.

But without the know-how, you are bound to make schoolboy errors. I just met a first-time founder at a local pitching event. She is making some of the same mistakes I made in 2005/06. You can’t blame her. She has no battle scars. But I can show her how to make fewer mistakes, and that’s know-how.

Then you need intelligence. Awareness of the market you are in, and how to achieve differentiation, so the positioning is key. Many do not understand or pay very little attention to positioning.

You can’t build a tech company without talent. Right people make companies fly.

You cannot build a tech company without any money. You need some money. More money does not mean success either, as you will burn cash on useless initiatives.

Whilst I don’t have all the answers, Techcelerate Group is getting there in providing everything you need. On the funding side, we need to team up with partners who can provide rapid funding. Something I need to work on for 2022.
